June Vacations #3

Last, but certainly not least, we took a short trip for a Luck family reunion to the river house. Grandmother Luck was in heaven, getting to hang out with both her new grandchildren at once. We had fun just relaxing together, playing a bit of Balderdash, celebrating Aunt Catherine's birthday and allowing our new additions to enjoy their first dip in the pool...a bit of an adventure and a large undertaking, but priceless in the end!

June vacations #2

Immediately following father's day weekend, we headed down to Hilton Head to visit little Rob's great grandparents, the Carltons. We had a fabulous time, playing with great Grandpa....

and introducing Robert to his Cousin Sarah, hanging out with Great Grandmother too!
We also got to take Rob down to the beach for his first dip in the ocean. Although he wasn't quite sure of it, he did venture into the surf with his dad, only to take a snooze in his beach tent (an essential, we found for baby beach travel).

Although little Rob didn't take part, I feel it important to mention that Robert also got to play Harbor Town (apparently, a really big deal in the golfing world) and hang out with his best friend kennedy...who, I might add, lives entirely too far away in Arizona with his wife Val. We loved being able to spend even a few hours with these two, Robert misses kennedy a ton throughout the year!

June Vacations--#1

We recently returned from a whirlwind adventure, visiting three locations in a matter of a week and half. Although we had a fabulous time, we're so so glad to be home and back on schedule a bit...except for the studying for the Bar part.

Last weekend saw us in DC visiting the Szy family and Robert's first visit with his Great Grandmother Szymanski! We all visited together to celebrate my cousin Allison's graduation from high school (whew...it made me feel old!)

We also celebrated BOTH father's day and Robert's 28th birthday...he is officially in his late 20's:) But never too old to receive the ceremonial "happy birthday" banner. This banner has been put up by my mother for as long as I can remember, even for those birthdays when I wasn't actually home.

My dad even introduced little Rob to his first greatest love, the Chicago Cubs...although not as die hard as some fans we know (yes, you Kinard family), my father's love for the Cubs runs deep...here's hoping that little Rob agrees!

he's rockin' sleep

So, we've waited to make this posting until we were sure that it was legit...we are happy to announce that our sweet one is sleeping through the night. For us, that means that he falls asleep at 9pm and doesn't wake up again until 7am. I thought that 4am feeding would never end and I wouldn't see 8 hours of sleep in a row ever again, but, our little guy came through and the three of us are enjoying a normal nights sleep again. It's amazing how happy and well rested he is in the mornings now, all smiles when we show up above his crib for his first morning feeding. Now that I'm well rested also it means that I can enjoy him more during the day, rather than being a walking zombie relying on robert to pull the weight during the day!

future career

We tried out Rob's new robe after his last bath. He loved how warm it made him and we loved that we could quickly put the diaper on (and thus save the towel from getting pooed in) and still keep him warm in the process. Although I'm a little bit nervous, he showed us immediately that he may have a career in boxing in the future. I'm going to have to start placing basketballs wherever he goes to compensate and change his mind.

Sabre needs attention

As you can see, Sabre often feels left out with the new baby around...
So we try out best to include him in our daily activities...
However, for Sabre, remaining on the sidelines sometimes isn't enough...

finally smiling on cue

One of our first photos where Rob is smiling:

visits from dear friends

This weekend was Robert and I's 5 year reunion from UVA...man, how times flies. We realized several things over the course of the weekend:
1. We are certainly in the minority in terms of people our age with kids...I can count on one hand the number of strollers present at Class of 2004 events!
2. The Academical Village is not well equipped for strollers. We went off roading several times just walking from the Rotunda down the lawn, and needed help to travel from the Corner to the Rotunda...things that you don't even consider pre-baby.
3. We have lots of people who love our son already. We got the pleasure of spending time with our dear friends who live in Charleston, the Slagels, who came by the house to see little Rob

Although it was his first time holding a baby, Matt did a fabulous job...he's a natural!

tired daddy

Even though Rob's still just a little one, he still tires us out. Thankfully, even when he's awake, he allows us to catch some shut eye every once in a while...
Apparently, Robert thought that they were napping together, and thankfully, little Rob let his daddy sleep!

extending awaketime

We've been working on extending the amount of time that he's awake each day...so that we do more with him then feed, burp, diaper change then back to sleep! One of the things that he loves is his activity mat (thanks Jackie!). Although he isn't reaching up and grabbing things yet, he is wide eyed and definitely checking out his options.
